BUYING GUIDE

Understanding Different Types of Sheepskin

Sheepskin is the best natural insulation against the bitter cold and always maintains a timeless, elegant aura. Whether crafted into magnificent coats and footwear or eye-catching accessories and home décor, specific types of sheepskin are carefully selected for their unique characteristics.

Sheepskin Types:

Spanish Merino Sheepskin

With wool that is soft and slim and a reverse leather side that is appealingly smooth, Spanish Merino sheepskins rank among the world's most sought-after natural fibers.

Spanish Merino sheepskins maintain a superb warmth-to-weight ratio that inherently regulates to body temperature, no matter how low the temperature drops. Not only does Spanish Merino sheepskin maintain superior insulating qualities, but also it has a luxurious look and feel that makes it perfect for crafting refined coats and accessories.

Toscana Sheepskin

Toscana sheepskin is among the most luxurious of all-natural fibers. Sourced from mountain sheep residing in Europe, the finest quality Toscana comes from Spain.

Esteemed for its long, silky wool on one side and soft leather on the other, its reversible quality makes it uniquely desirable for crafting distinctive designs. Toscana is frequently selected for the finest shearling coats, jackets, and winter accessories.

While lightweight and easy to wear, Toscana sheepskin will help insulate against the most freezing cold weather.

Curly Sheepskin

Curly sheepskin describe various breeds of sheep with particularly curly wool, such as:

South African sheepskin: tightly curled wool with a luxurious texture—often used to craft extra warm coats and hats. Stemming from arid climates, these sheepskins are also valued for the durability of their hides.

Tigrado sheepskin: known for its distinct tight curls, this natural fiber traces its origins to Spain. Both the leather and wool sides of Tigrado are striking, making it an excellent feature for reversible creations. Since this sheepskin comes from sheep that have smaller-sized pelts, it is often used as an imaginative accent or trim on shearling coats or jackets.

Tibetan Lamb sheepskin: see below.

Australian Merino Sheepskin

Australian Merino sheepskins are prized for their dense, luxurious wool on one side and their smooth leather on the other. The softly concentrated wool on this sheepskin makes for a plush, buoyant fur that is soft and supportive.

Australian Merinos come from sheep that thrive in colder mountain environments, resulting in lightweight skins that keep them cool when temperatures rise and protects them from a bitter freeze. Exceptionally pliable, these durable sheepskins are often used to craft slippers that are comfortable to wear and guaranteed to keep your feet warm.

Australian Sheepskin

Australian sheepskin has dense, soft wool with a longer pile of around 2.5 inches. Because the wool fibers are so close together, Australian sheepskin maintains its high loft, which is the ability of fibers to stand upright.

This height creates a fluffy, airy effect when Australian sheepskin is crafted into striking rugs, pillows, and home décor items.

Icelandic Sheepskin

With a texture that is wonderfully wild and wooly, Icelandic sheepskin comes from a type of sheep that is thought to have been brought to Iceland by the Vikings. Its thicker texture has a pile that ranges from 4 to 6 inches in length.

The wool's exceptionally long fibers are spectacularly showcased by the wool's lower loft, a result of having fewer hairs per square inch. Those characteristics combine to create a chic, shaggy appearance, perfect for rugs and pillows.

Tibetan Lamb Sheepskin

Tibetan lambskin makes an unparalleled design statement with its inviting texture of silky curls, which measure 5 inches long when fully extended.

This lightweight lambskin is often crafted into a range of home goods, including pillows, throws, blankets, and rugs, and regularly chosen to incorporate into eye-catching footwear and accessories.
